A Great, Wet Week

Just got back from 9 days at scout camp, and as always, when I have been in the woods for a long time I don't want to come back. I now see that the world didn't stop without me, but my email did. It is cleared out now, so anything you sent in the last two weeks, please try again.

The first two days of camp were beautiful, after that it rained, but it only got cold the last day (we ended one day early because of it). Summer camp is quite a lot of work. There are no real campsites that I have seen, so they bring EVERYTHING with them. They cook on wood, and they build latrines, fire pits, and flagpoles for the week. At one point while washing my hands in a dirty river that had swelled from the rain and was threatening to wash everything else away, I stopped and thought, "how can this be all I want out of life at this point? Is everything alright in my head?" Everything went very well. I was something of the game master, and it was fun, because many of my games were new to them. Most of them worked on teamwork and leadership, with which they had some issues, but the VERY last game that we played, they did a fabulous job as a team. This game was, of course, the one where I didn't want them working together.

I am off again with changed plans (of course, this is Ukraine) to a bunch more camps and my email might fill up again. I am meeting lots of great people and they keep inviting me to great things. School is coming up soon, and eventually I am going to have to sit down and think about what I am actually going to teach. I am not to worried though; if I didn't already say, the director said before school let out that what I was going to teach wasn't so important because my English was good, and they got to know that I am a good person, and that is more important. Interesting.

Oh, and PS, don't need the alchohol wipes (but you can send them anyway). And every camp I have been to (including at the sports school day camp) do these crazy type of Calistenics, that basically go against everything I have learned about physical training. I swear the first 10 times I did them, I swore the person was making this stuff up as a joke, but now I have seen to many similar variations to believe that.

Hi John,
Thanks for the update on your email being out for a time. Ben and I are sending to the address in the Ukrane you gave us two beach ball world globes: one political and one topographical. We're still waiting for them to be shipped to us and didn't want to take the chance on direct shipping overseas, so it may take a few more weeks before they get to you. I hope they work out!
Love, Janette and Ben

John,
What you are doing sounds amazing. I just updated myself on the past three months...I'm so jealous! I feel like you should put these experiences in a book...I would certainly buy it. Also, i got your postcard. It was a beautiful picture. And a beautiful thought. When is your birthday, so I can send you a postcard of Kentucky?
Lauren
