End of summer

Last night as I biked back to my little Czech farm... under the fading twilight and rising moon...although autumn color is in the leaves and a chill is in the air... I had the distinct feeling that summer has ended...not a while a go, but just then. I received no winter schedule with Backroads in this very competitive year, and I just finished my last trip. Today we will pack up our little house and drive back to Provence where I will stay a few days before flying home. I think the European chapter of my life may be coming to an end. I feel that the fall has begun and it is one that I have put off for almost 5 years now, but yet I am intrigued to see coming. I feel that first day of school excitement hanging in the air.

I've often thought that our lives would be much richer if we continued to change them every four or five years like we do when we are young. Five years of pre-school then they throw us into elementary school. Five years later we get shoved into middle school. Then it's high school for four and college for four (or more). But after that there is no social or cultural requirement to change our whole world on a regular basis. So after five years in Europe, you're ready for a change? The pattern is perfect; the timing is just right. Remember, the title of your blog is "Perpetual Change". Go for the gusto!!
