Back to Europe

After flying to Paris and getting myself to Avignon, where I was to be picked up by 'someone' (it is always a surprise with Backroads who will be there to greet you. This time it was my big boss.), I had a most luxurious day and a half in Provence, eating French cheese, biking and visiting with friends.

Then I headed into Italy and 5 days of intense work, loosing myself to all outside news as is so often the case with Backroads. It has been stormy here most of that time. Today, after discussions of how we work too intensely with a colleague, Anne Sophie, we went on a bike ride. It felt great to be biking hills! Then it started to rain, so we found a little cafe with an impressive beer collection up in the hills. I plan to visit them again.

So after a few beers, we saddled up for a spectacularly dramatic ride home as the rain clouds and fading sun played hide-n-go-seek behind the hill tops across the Arno valley...and I remembered why 3 years after writing a blog entry titled "Leaving Backroads," I'm still here.

Then we went for apperitivo.
