'Social Worker'

‘Social worker’, like ‘businessman,’ is a term that means nothing to me... other than remotely delineating a priority in the majority of one’s work, justice or profit. Social work has been in a crisis to explain exactly what a social worker is. I don’t think there is any possible answer. I studied hospitality administration and international affairs before, but I have never worked as, called myself, or even met a hospitality administrator or an international affairer! Yes, there are diplomats and banquet managers, but these are professionals that use the skills of the academic fields, not the other way around. The knowledge of academics grew out of practice. The field I study now should really be considered the confluence of several disciplines, much as international affairs is; not an entity in its own heterogeneous right. Let me never be called a social worker.
