Safari
I have been keeping notes on my trips, but unfortunately, I have not been better at consolidating and posting them. I am going to get up my latest impressions then hopefully go back and fill in and edit as time permits.
We have just come back from a break in classes, midway through the program. We were on safari for two days. It was incredible. At one point, I actually looked at the person next to me and said, “We are on safari in Africa!” We saw kadu, nyala, zebra, a journey of giraffe, elephant and a monkey on the first day; more of the first four, water buffalo, wildebeest, rhinos, and lots of birds the second morning; and crocodiles, hippos, fish eagles, and another monkey in the afternoon. We did evening, night, morning bush drives and a bush walk. We spit impala dung, ate termites, pap, and impala ribs, drank gin and tonics in the bush, saw baby hippos, fields of sugar cane, expanses of Eucalyptus, and giant forested dunes that they mine for titanium. I was torn last night between watching the clouds drift in front of the full moon, the fire in our tented camp, or the lightning show on the horizon.
Just about every word in that last paragraph has a story. I cannot tell them all here, but I hope to expand on a few of them. Suffice it to say that this is an amazing land with a fascinating history. The people are very friendly and extremely diverse. They have a lot from which we can learn.
