On the train to Poland (two months ago):I cut my hair into something of a Mohawk and grew a big mustache. It is a traditional style here in Ukraine. The Cossacks shaved their heads and the remaining top knot looks kind of like a fish lying there on their head, so it is called “a herring”. I wear a baseball cap when I am not at camp but on my way to Poland, I imagined the conversation when I remove my cap on the plane. I decided that if I asked, my response would be, “I’m a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ukraine and my job is to develop youth. One of the biggest parts of this, I have learned, is to convince Ukrainian youth to be proud of themselves. Their history, they respect, but they often don’t believe in themselves, and this haircut helps me to teach that lesson.”
PS. The weather here is phenomenal! The air is crisp in the morning and warm in the afternoon. The skies are sunny there is little rain. Except for about three (very) cold days, it has been that way for weeks, but only this week really have the trees come into full color in town. They are stunning! I must have been too overwhelmed last year to appreciate it. I barely even remember it, but I am drinking it all in now.

2 months ago? But I saw you two months ago and you did not have any such haircut! I would have loved to see that!
A mowhawk, that is sweet! I bet it would look great on Munson. Well, I was cleaning out my contact list, and I realized that I had your blog site, so I figgured, I'd see how you were doing. I'm glad you're having fun out there with the Peach Corps. I'm still working for the Boy Scouts. It's pretty fun, I'm actually running a Cub Scout Camp this summer, so I'm going back to my roots! lol. Anyways, glad to hear you're doing well. If you want to shoot me a line, my e-mail is cjbobis@yahoo.com
How smart you are! Your students will relate to you or think you are absolutely insane - either way, they will love you more.
Glad the weather is so beautiful and you are noticing. Memories of the beauty help to get us through the harsh times.
And yes, we all need to see pictures!
John, I apologize for not responding on your last blog. My E-mail is still the same. June and the other summer months are my busiest, getting off work during that time would be difficult. My idea for a trip to the Ukraine to see you was spawned by my 30th birthday next month. I felt I needed to celebrate with a grand adventure. I actually will be trekking in Nepal for 17 days. I leave in only a few weeks and absolutely can't wait. I'll tell you about it when I return. --Landon
