MIA

Sorry that I have been MIA for so long. I hope I haven’t lost too many of you. Thank you for the concerned emails and text messages. This is probably the time when a lot of you have more time to read. I have been at camp, which means the most technology I hope for is a flushing toilet. Actually I was in the USA for 3 days at Meagan and Claes Bell’s gorgeous wedding in the middle of June, and then my parents and sister came to Ukraine to visit for 10 days, then there was a 3 day International Youth Conference near Kremenchuk, a Russian language summer camp, an American/ Ukrainian wedding, our semi-annual Peace Corps training, a day on the beach of the Dnipro, a few days at home, a week in the local mountains with Ukrainian and Polish volunteers, an ecological camp with some of my students on the other side of the mountains and finally 10 days with my Ukrainian Scout kids. I even found some time to can some summer vegetables in there. I have lots to post, but it will take me some time to write up all the notes that are scribbled on little pieces of papers that I have been collecting over that whole time. Whew…

John,

I have forgotten how much I enjoy listening to your stories and how fun it is to hear your fascination with the most minor of details and differences in these two cultures. When most would speedily walk through the same experience you stop to actually live it - I admire that. I have been terrible about checking your blog, but now have it saved in my "favorites" internet folder. I'm looking forward to more stories and possibly meeting up with you for a long hike where we can catch up.

Take care,
-Landon
