Weekend Warrior

Well it is official...

I have become a weekend warrior, and not even a very good one at that. I realized it last week when I was out for a Saturday morning 30 mile bike ride on my own. I wasn't pushing it so hard. In fact, was on more of a bike ride version of a stroll under the canopy roads of Northern Florida. A butterfly flew by (laterally, not passing me), and I had this image that I had emerged from a cocoon after a particularly long summer. I have a job (that I enjoy and care about), I have a car, insurance, benefits; I have almost become an 'adult' one might say. But, my new schedule makes it much more difficult to exercise regularly, practice my harmonica, catch up on little projects. I feel strangely like I have re-entered high school in some ways. I have managed to bike commute at least two days every week, most three, and a couple four. I also have a pool at my temporary apartment, so I have gotten in a swim most days that I don't bike. It is amazing what a morning swim will do for my mood when I have to sit in my office and meetings all day, with no windows. The pool also keeps me a bit connected to the real summer, which we have just entered. It has been a long time since I have been in Florida for a whole summer. I find myself being reminded by little things and thinking often camp at Tanah Keeta, snorkeling in the keys, swatting away key deers and no-see-ums, and biking past sunflower fields.
