Beautiful Art II

I've spent the last week visiting amazing sites, locations and museums with truly wonderful people. I've experienced art in so many ways, but mostly through the good will of others. I am so glad to celebrate the Christmas season in this way (I hope all of you who have been so hospitable feel the same way).

I saw the natural and viniculture beauty of southern Virginia with my sister, Catherine.

I saw a mother bear, her two cubs, some deer and a big hawk along the Skyline Drive, which is more wildlife in 3 hours than I have seen the last 3 years in Europe.

I had a great tour of the Capitol with a Senator's Information Specialist, my long time friend, Patrick. The sculpture, paitings and ceilings are so inspiring, in a way similar to the Soviet stuff, but more warming to my heart (though sometimes I think that translates as more Colonial, and therefore down-to-earth).

I had dinner with some great friends both from Peace Corps Ukraine and Florida State University, and got to experience their great culinary talents and warm homes.

And then I got to skip my plane and stay two extra days in Atlanta, where I saw the world's largest Aquarium and had the best Greek dinner, with the most animated proprietor and my friends Rella and Sando.

But I am also deep in the throws of culture shock which is a post soon to come.

i am intrigued to read of your culture shock, quite.

i am intrigued to learn that you have a sister - how many in your family? how sad that i know so little of your family!

and i am intrigued to know how you felt about the ga aquarium. it's the largest both area-wize and water-volume-wise. the beluga whales were beautiful, no?

italy felt more like a home to me than england, funny, i thought. and i kept wanting to say things in italian even after i had left.

my feet are swollen.

and i think you're no longer in america, which makes me sad that i missed you!

xoxo,
kim

Yay for art! My mother's high school friend visited from Jamaica and we took her to the Ringling Museum of Art. Long story short -- go for the Baroque and Rubens parts, stay for the Cuban exhibit.
