My dad said that when I told him the Cyrillic alphabet isn’t so hard and he really should study it before he comes, he thought, “Sure, but this is ‘Mr. Focused’ talking.” Then he found it wasn’t so hard, but after our In-Service-Training for Language, I realized how right he was too. Languages are not my God-given talent; studying and dedication might be. My host mom (and tutor) says I need a girlfriend to practice my language… and kill some of my insatiable thirst to study. But I also realized how proud I am of my dad’s compliment.

PS. I just started studying Russian. I figure that might actually be marketable after I leave here. I understand a lot more Surgic, already (the hybrid Ukrainian-Russian dialect), but we will see if I can keep them both straight myself while speaking.
